I too have the same problem but I think I found a solution. In the Microsoft LifeCam software, open the dashboard and click on the gear icon up top (next to the effects icon). Unclick "Truecolor" and then click on "properties" under the "adjust the LifeCam advanced settings". Go to the "camera control" tab and uncheck the auto box for focus. Now you can manually focus. I set mine at 10 for the distance I sit. This will allow the camera to still auto white balance and auto exposure as well.
